Quantity Surveyor

A Quantity Surveyor, or “QS” for short, is like a special helper for builders! They make sure that building projects don’t cost too much and that everything stays on budget. They do this by calculating how much materials (like wood, bricks, and paint) and workers are needed. They also check that everything is being built properly and on time. If a builder needs something, a Quantity Surveyor helps make sure it’s affordable!

What tools do you use to do your job?
To do their job, a Quantity Surveyor uses lots of tools. They often have a big computer to keep track of all the costs and drawings for a building. They also use things like measuring tapes, calculators, and sometimes even special software to help them figure out how much money each part of the project will cost. A Quantity Surveyor needs to pay close attention to all the details!

What makes a good Quantity Surveyor?
A good Quantity Surveyor is good at math because they need to count and calculate everything carefully. They also need to be very organized because they have to keep track of lots of numbers and information. It’s also important to be a good communicator because a Quantity Surveyor talks to many people, like architects and builders, to make sure everyone understands the plan. What do you do each day?
Each day, a Quantity Surveyor looks at the building plans to see what needs to be done. They talk to the team about how much things will cost and check to make sure they’re not going over budget. Sometimes, they visit the building site to check on the workers and make sure everything is going as planned. If something unexpected happens, like a new problem, the Quantity Surveyor helps figure out how to solve it while keeping the costs in check!
