Plasterer

A plasterer is someone who helps make walls smooth and neat in houses and buildings. They do this by spreading a special paste called plaster on walls and ceilings. The plaster helps cover up cracks and bumps to make the wall look nice and even. After plastering, the walls are ready for painting or wallpaper.

What tools do you use to do your job?

Plasterers use different tools to help them spread the plaster and make the walls smooth. Here are some tools they use:

  • Trowel: A flat tool used to scoop and spread the plaster on the wall.
  • Hawk: A flat board that holds the plaster while the plasterer works.
  • Float: A tool with a smooth surface that helps make the plaster flat and even.
  • Plastering knife: A small knife used for more detailed work and fixing smaller areas.

What makes a good plasterer?

A good plasterer needs to be careful and patient because plastering takes time and practice. They should be good at:

  • Being neat: Plastering requires making walls and ceilings smooth, so it’s important to be careful and tidy.
  • Being strong: Carrying buckets of plaster and working with heavy tools can be tough, so being strong helps.
  • Paying attention to detail: Plasterers need to notice little bumps or cracks in the walls so they can fix them.
  • Working well with others: Plasterers often work with builders, painters, and other workers to finish a project.

What do you do each day?

Each day, a plasterer starts by getting all their tools ready. They mix the plaster and then start applying it to the walls. After putting the plaster on, they smooth it out with their tools to make sure everything looks even. They might need to add a second layer of plaster to get the wall extra smooth. Once they are done, they clean up their tools and check their work to make sure it’s perfect.

Plasterers work on different buildings, from houses to schools, and they help make sure everything looks nice and new when the building is finished!
