Ceramic Tiler

A ceramic tiler is someone who fits tiles onto walls and floors. These tiles are usually made of ceramic and can be found in places like bathrooms, kitchens, and even swimming pools! Tilers make sure the tiles are straight, neat, and look great. They also help protect the walls and floors from water and damage.

What tools do you use to do your job?

Ceramic tilers use lots of tools to do their job, such as:

  • Trowels – to spread sticky tile glue on the wall or floor.
  • Tile cutters – to cut tiles so they fit into corners or small spaces.
  • Spacers – to keep all the tiles evenly apart.
  • Grout floats – to fill the gaps between tiles with special material called grout.
  • Spirit levels – to make sure the tiles are perfectly straight.

What makes a good ceramic tiler?

A good ceramic tiler is:

  • Careful and patient – so they can lay each tile properly.
  • Good at measuring and cutting – to make the tiles fit just right.
  • Strong and fit – because tiling can mean a lot of kneeling, standing, and lifting.
  • A team player – because they often work with other builders on big jobs.

What do you do each day?

Every day can be a bit different, but a ceramic tiler might:

  • Arrive at a building site and get all their tools ready.
  • Check the space where the tiles will go.
  • Spread tile adhesive on the wall or floor.
  • Place the tiles carefully in rows.
  • Use spacers and a level to keep everything straight.
  • Once the tiles are set, fill the gaps with grout.
  • Clean everything up and get ready for the next area!
