Carpenter
A carpenter is someone who builds and fixes things made out of wood. Carpenters help build houses, schools, and other buildings. They also make things like doors, floors, stairs, and even furniture! Carpenters measure, cut, and join pieces of wood together to create strong and useful structures.
What tools do you use to do your job?
Carpenters use lots of different tools to help them with their work. Some of the most common ones include:
- Hammer – for banging in nails
- Saw – to cut wood (there are hand saws and power saws)
- Measuring tape – to make sure everything is the right size
- Screwdriver and drill – to put in screws and make holes
- Level – to check if something is straight and flat
- Tool belt – to carry tools around while working
They also wear safety gear like helmets, goggles, and gloves to stay safe on the job.
What makes a good carpenter?
A good carpenter needs to:
- Be careful and accurate – small mistakes can make big problems!
- Be good with their hands – lots of the work involves using tools and building things
- Be able to follow plans and drawings
- Be strong and fit – it’s an active job!
- Enjoy working as part of a team
- Like being outdoors or in busy places like building sites
What do you do each day?
Each day can be different for a carpenter! Here’s what a day might look like:
- Start early and get to the construction site
- Look at the plans to see what needs to be built
- Measure and cut wood to the right sizes
- Build things like walls, floors, or frames
- Use tools to join the wood together
- Work safely and check everything is strong and correct
- Tidy up the area before going home
Carpenters help turn drawings into real buildings – it’s like building a giant puzzle!
