Civil Engineer

A civil engineer helps design and build big things like bridges, roads, tunnels, airports, and buildings. They make sure these things are strong, safe, and last a long time. Civil engineers solve problems and help make the places we live and travel through better for everyone.

What tools do they use for their job?

Civil engineers use computers with special software to draw and test their ideas. They also use rulers, measuring tools, and maps. When they visit building sites, they wear safety gear like hard hats, boots, and high-visibility jackets. Sometimes they use tools to check the ground or measure how strong materials are.

What makes a good Civil Engineer?

To be a good civil engineer, you need to enjoy solving problems and be good at maths and science. You also need to be creative, organised, and able to work well with other people. Being curious and asking lots of questions really helps too!

What does a typical day look like?

A civil engineer might spend part of the day in an office, looking at plans and using computers, and the other part outside on a construction site, checking how things are being built. They talk to other engineers, builders, and designers to make sure the work is done properly and safely.
